Kirsten Mitchell

Kirsten Mitchell
Helen Hunt Clinic
Occupational Therapist Assistant

I have lived in Colorado for the past 22 years and raised two girls in Teller County recently making a move to Colorado Springs. Looking for my next adventure since my youngest is graduating High School this year.

After being presented with some challenging health and family life lessons I feel I am here for a reason sometimes not sure of the specifics but I believe and have faith that we can all make a difference even if it’s just one person.

I have been so blessed to be put on a path that lead me to the Shandy Clinic and being able to meet and work with so many amazing children, their families and therapists over the past 4 years. I am constantly learning and growing as a person and therapist with every experience I am given. I am exactly where I am meant to be and very thankful.

Kirsten Mitchell with child

“Gavin loves being a part of the Shandy Clinic for all of his therapies. He has been working with Kirsten for over a year and thinks of her as his friend. She has been able to hep us incorporate a home exercise yoga program that works great for both of us. He has shown improvements and looks forward to “doing great” every time he goes. We appreciate the level of care he receives at the clinic.” – Renee

Caryn Short

Caryn Short
South Clinic
COTA/L

I am a Colorado native and grew up in the Colorado Springs area. I am very blessed to have a beautiful family and raise my boys in this amazing state. I have been a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) for almost 9 years now and was lucky enough to do my internship here at The Shandy Clinic. I have never looked back. My calling has always been toward special needs children and when I felt the Shandy Clinic mission, there was no place that compared. I believe it is important to give back to the community and share your gifts with others and this is what the Shandy Clinic encompasses. I am honored to be a part of this great team. – Caryn Short

“Caryn is a wonderfully sweet woman. Over the last 6 years that she has worked with my daughters, she has always greeted us with a warm smile and caring voice. She has happily helped us through so many situations. From feeding, to sensory, to fine motor and handwriting, she’s been there for us through it all! My kids have come so far and I know it’s because we’ve had her on our team!” – Holly

Monica Martinez

Monica Martinez
Pueblo Clinic
COTA/L

I was born at St Mary Corwin Hospital several years ago and was raised on the East side of Pueblo. I was brought up to be a proud woman and to never forget where you came from. Not only am I a COTA I’m also a massage therapist who loves dancing to 80’s music, lifting weights, and yoga. My husband and I have been married for 21 years and  chose to raise our 3 boys here in Pueblo. Our youngest son was born with a metabolic disorder (MMA CblC). He passed away at 18 months old on Jan 1,1999. He is why I do what I do. I love every single one of my kids and I feel that I honor my son by connecting with every kiddo that I come in contact with. I am so blessed to know that I’m right where I need to be and doing what I’m supposed to be doing. This is much more than a J.O.B for me.

“I would recommend the Shandy Clinic anytime because my son loves working with MS. Monica. Monica is so caring and knowledgeable and obviously loves what she does. Shandy has great resources and staff. Thank you Shandy!” – Dannielle

Heather Crabbe

Heather Crabbe
North Clinic
Occupational Therapist Assistant

I have had a passion to work with children and animals my entire life. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in University Studies from University of Mary in 2012, and followed that with obtaining my Associate’s degree in Occupational Therapy from North Dakota State College of Science in 2014. Making the move from North Dakota to Colorado that September was the final piece in fulfilling my career dream of working in a pediatric setting, not only in the Shandy Clinic, but also in an Early Intervention Home Health setting. I enjoy working with all ages of children and help give them the opportunity to live life to the fullest by providing therapy through the occupation of play, problem-solving, and trying new and creative methods and techniques. The Shandy Clinic family has taught me so much about myself, and I continue to expand my knowledge about pediatric occupational therapy. I am so excited to be a part of the Animal Assisted Therapy Volunteer Program – bringing my love of children and animals into one!

Heather Crabbe with child

“Heather is such a blessing to our family. I have seen improvement with social skills, handwriting and endurance with both of my boys, and their teachers have noticed it as well. Both boys love going to OT with Miss Heather, and always come home with a fun activity or some artwork. They think OT is an extension of playtime, and they look forward to it every week!” – Angela

Joanna Cawthon

Joanna Cawthon
South Clinic
Clinic Manager
Speech-Language Pathologist

I have had a passion for working with children my entire life. I always thought I would become an elementary school teacher. When I was attending the University of North Texas I was also working as a preschool teacher. While working, I met a very wonderful child who had a speech-language pathologist come to our school to work with her on feeding and language skills. She inspired me! That is where my journey to become a speech-language pathologist began. I completed my undergraduate studies at The University of North Texas and received my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Texas Woman’s University in May 2013. I moved to Colorado Springs from Texas to become part of the Shandy Clinic family. I feel so thankful that I get to work with such amazing children, families, and teammates every single day.

Joanna Cawthon

“I would recommend the Shandy Clinic anytime because my daughter loves working with me Ms. Jo and Ms. Tami, two of the speech therapists, who obviously love what they do and connect with their clients to allow for a greater success.” – Kyrie

Stephenie Allen

Stephenie Allen
Pueblo Clinic
Physical Therapist, DPT

I moved to Pueblo when I was 6 years old and have lived here most of my life. It was in high school that I felt the call to pursue a career in physical therapy. After graduating from Pueblo West High School in 2008, I attended Colorado Christian University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. My desire to become a physical therapist was still very much present. I attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX and received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. It was during physical therapy school that my love for children and my passion for physical therapy collided. I began working at the Shandy Clinic in May of 2016 and am so thankful to work with such an amazing company. Pediatric physical therapy incorporates so many of my passions into one incredible opportunity, and I love that I am back in Pueblo and get to serve the families here.

Stephenie Allen

“We are blessed and excited Miss Stephenie and the Shandy Clinic have begun working with Jose. She has taught him things that we have tried for years. We as a family are excited to see where the future will take us.” – Deanna

Stephen Bigler

Steve Bigler
Pueblo Clinic
Clinic Manager
Occupational Therapy Assistant

I was born in St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in 1979, and have Iived almost my entire life in Pueblo. After graduating from Centennial High School in 1997, I married my high school sweet heart and love of my life Myllisa, and got a job working in a brass and aluminum foundry. Then after 9/11 I felt a call to serve my country and my wife supported me every step of the way.
I enlisted in the Army and served with the 101st out of Fort Campbell Kentucky for 4 1/2 years as an infantry line medic. After leaving the Army I went to school for Occupational Therapy and after graduating from Pueblo Community College, I began working with the Shandy Clinic, which I can’t believe is almost 6 years ago.

Pediatrics is my true passion and I am very excited to be back in my hometown, being able to help the kiddos that I see every day unlock their true potential. It is a blessing to be here in Pueblo and give back to the community that has given me so much, and has made me the person that I am today.
